PEARL pilot program effective in Tonga

Officials of the Pacific Early Age Readiness and Learning – PEARL this morning confirmed that the program is effective in Tonga.
PEARL aims at supporting and helping children to achieve better in school by focusing on improving school readiness, improving literacy in early years of primary and generating evidence of outcomes achieved to inform policy.
Not only that but PEARL also wish to enhance capacity of the Ministry of Education and Training to lead policies and programs in partnership with local stakeholders including private and non-government schools and preschools.
Dr. Binh Vu from the PEARL says the program was piloted in the country in 2014 to 2017.
During this time, they have witnessed improvement on children’s reading capabilities compared to previous years.
She said, one of the problems they have discovered was the students that did not attend pre-school were not performing well.
However, they have seen a huge improvement after they have piloted the program in Tonga.
