The restoration and repairing of power lines in Tongatapu has reached 75 per cent.
More than 90 linesmen working on restoring electricity throughout Tongatapu.
The Operation Manager of Tonga Power – Setitaia Chen this morning says the areas that are still without power are Fatumu and Haveluliku. Their power lines are expected to be switched on today.
“The remaining 25% is the most challenging and it’s mainly particularly because of the extensive damage to the network and also to the lines going to these houses of these customers. There has been a big focus from us and from the team to carry us restoration as much as we can in the CBD area from Patangata to ‘Isileli and up to Hofoa and towards Tofoa and I’m pretty sure its being visual and noticeable the amount of work in the CBD,” Chen said.
He says repairing of power lines is underway in Tongatapu with assistance from Australian and New Zealand linesmen.
TC Gita damaged most of the power lines in Tongatapu and most of the damage was recorded in the Nuku’alofa area. Chen says, the period for the power restoration is expected to complete sooner than scheduled.
