Climate Resilience Sector Project for civil servants

Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 12/03/2018

Twenty certificates were presented to civil servants who have completed the Climate Resilience Sector Project. This training is in partnership with the Tongan Government and the Asian Development Bank.

This training mainly focused on ways how to combat the negative effects of climate change.

The project coordinator, Dr. Langitoto Helu says the training was mainly for civil servants because they will be the first ones responsible for dealing with climate change-related issues.

Meanwhile, Robert Vivili from the Climate Change Department says the training is very useful to up-skill their knowledge.

“I feel privileged and honoured to be part of this training. This training was a short-term, very intensive training. The components that were covered in the training were very relevant to what Tonga is facing right now. In terms of disaster management and preparedness as well, I think that’s an area that Tonga needs to work on and to include people from different ministries,” he said.

The three-month training started in July and ended in September last year.
