Community awareness training to assist people living with disabilities

Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 28/03/2018

There is a need to make everyone feel that they belong in the society and that they have an opportunity towards the development of the country.

That is the purpose of the Community Awareness Training of the Convention for the Rights of a Person with Disability – CRPD in its first opening ceremony this morning.

The President of the Tonga National Visual Impairment Association, ‘Ofeina Leka says the association was established in 2014 to help those with visual impairment to be able to have the same opportunity as everyone towards developing the country – in different aspects of life.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Internal Affairs ‘Akosita Lavulavu says the Ministry supports the vision of the association – in enabling everyone especially those living with disabilities, women, families, and youths to be a part of all developments in the country.

The Tonga National Visual Impairment Association is funded by an American organization known as Disability Rights Advocacy Fund.
