Fibre Optic Cable launched in Vava’u

The Hon. Prime Minister – ‘Akilisi Pohiva, this morning commissioned the extension of the fibre optic cable to Vava’u.
The celebration includes the opening of Tonga Cable Limited’s new office in Talau, Neiafu with the aim to fulfill its plan to bring faster, reliable and less expensive communication services to Ha’apai and Vava’u.
CEO – Edwin Liava’a says, the fibre optic cable will have a great impact on the way the people on the island operate their businesses and communicate with other people.
The system is consists of two fiber pairs with the total length of approximately 400 kilometers with one branching Unit to allow both Ha’apai and Vava’u to be served.
The estimated budget is US$8.3m or approximately $18 million pa’anga and it’s co- funded through grants from World Bank and ADB and the government.
