It is important for the government, service providers and NGOs to work together towards the development of people living with disabilities in Tonga, so that they can get employment opportunities to provide for themselves and their families.
This was the purpose of a workshop held yesterday by the Ministry of Internal Affairs’ Social Protection and Disability Department in partnership with the Tonga Skills program.
The Deputy CEO for the Ministry of Internal Affairs, Lu’isa Manuofetoa says the workshop was designed to help the participants to find ways on how to assist people living with disabilities access training to improve their income and help support their own families.
She also says that in order to improve the life of the people living with disabilities they must first build the capacities of the stakeholders.
Manuofetoa says the people living with disabilities is among those prioritized by the local government and also in the region and therefore the public should make them feel that they belong in the community.
There are 39 stakeholders in the Tonga Disability Taskforce.
