Tonga Audit office’s standard is satisfactory but has room for improvement
Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 27/04/2018
There are still some areas in the operations of the Tonga Audit Office that can be improved, despite a recent audit deeming the office in a satisfactory standard.
In an interview with the Tonga’s Auditor General, on the conclusion of the strategic planning regional workshop hosted in Nuku’alofa this week, Sefita Tangi said this workshop brought together 12 supreme audit institutions from Pacific Island nations.
They discuss and formulate long term strategic management plans for each audit office, as the next step after they conducted an audit or review of each other’s audit offices.
In this audit, the standard of the Tonga Audit Office’s operation was satisfactory, but Tangi says the area of Performance auditing was found to be one of the weakest, not only in the Tonga Audit Office, but also in most of the other Pacific Islands.
Tangi says this week’s workshop has helped strengthen the Audit Office’s capability to formulate and implement a long term strategic management plan.
With the conclusion of the regional workshop, the Pacific Association of Supreme Audit Institutions will be hosting another workshop with the Tonga Audit Office, next week, with the objective to further develop the Audit Office, to achieve a higher standard.
