Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 09/05/2018
The offered was made by Pohiva in anticipation of the British Government’s re-engagement in the Pacific region, in the wake of their planned to exit from the European Union.
The PM made the announcement while attending the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting in Britain.
He says, his intention was not to give away the ownership of the land but it’s just for their occupation.
Pohiva made the statement in response to one of the questions from media during a press conference yesterday.
The PM apologized for any misunderstanding and said it was never his thought for them to take away the ownership.
The last British High Commissioner to Tonga left the Kingdom in 2006.
