3.4 million pa’anga has been allocated to assist Churches School affected by Cyclone Gita

The government has allocated 3.4 million pa’anga to assist Churches School affected by Cyclone Gita earlier this year. The financial assistance will help repair the damaged to these schools.
The $3.4 million pa’anga will be divided among the Churches school that were badly affected from the cyclone.
The cheque presentation to mark the program was held at the Cabinet meeting room at the Prime Minister’s Office at Saint George Government Building.
During the program, the Hon. Prime Minister ‘Akilisi Pohiva says the decision to allocate funds to assist church schools was based on the growing number of complaints from the public.
He says the amount to be distributed to each school will be different based on the outcome of an assessment carried out by the government on the amount of damage reported by each school.
Pohiva says they’re hoping that the financial assistance will assist these schools to recover from the cyclone.
Meanwhile, the CEO of the Ministry of Finance and National Planning Balwyn Fa’otusia says Education sector plays an important role in society especially in the National Development.
She says, Churches school make important contribution to society by educating and building the capabilities of young leaders for the future.
The Deputy Prime Minister Semisi Sika, Minister for Agriculture Semisi Fakahau and representatives from church schools were at the program.
A total of $ 4.7 million pa’anga was allocated by government to the Education sector, it consists of 1.3 million pa’anga for Government schools and 3.4 million for churches school.
