Shortage of anesthetics at Vaiola Hospital

Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa ,11/06/2018

Some of the surgery operations scheduled for this week at the Vaiola Hospital have been deferred due to a shortage in the hospitals stock of anesthetics agents.

The Medical Superintendent of the Hospital – Dr. Lisiate ‘Ulufonua, says at the moment they are prioritizing emergency operations or patients who are in critical need of surgery, with the rest awaiting for more anesthetics to arrive.

The hospital is expecting more stock to arrive sometime this week so the operating theatre can return to normal operation.

Although infrequent, this isn’t the first time this has happened at the hospital however, ‘Ulufonua says they are working to solving this problem as soon as possible.
