Houses with minimal damage will receive 500 pa’anga, 1 thousand 500 pa’anga for houses with considerable damage while houses with major damage or which were completely destroyed, they will receive 3,000 pa’anga.
One of the commercial banks in Nuku’alofa this morning was packed with people cashing out their cheques from the Ministry of Finance.
‘Afa Takai from Tofoa, and ‘Elisiva Lomu from Tatakamotonga, were amongst the hundreds who were at the bank this morning.
They expressed their gratitude in receiving this donation from the government, saying although it comes almost 4 months after the cyclone, this would still be a great help to their families.
The government have allocated 4.8 million pa’anga for these families from Tongatapu and ‘Eua whose homes were damaged.
This was funded by foreign aid through the Shelter Cluster.
A total of 6,996 homes are part of this assistance scheme.
