The Hon. Prime Minister ‘Akilisi Pohiva has confirmed that a fund will be allocated to help the Ministry of Police in the fight against drugs.
He made the statement during a heated debate with the Media yesterday at Saint George Government Building.
Pohiva says the drugs issue is still a concern in the country but they don’t have the power to arrest anyone involved in drugs smuggling or distribution.
He was referring to the authority outlined in the Police Act 2010 which is mostly under the Police Commissioner.
Pohiva says they wanted to have the authority in order to solve the problem.
Other issues raised during the press conference include social media and how it has been used to defame others in the country.
Pohiva says, Tonga is not the only country that is affected from this problem but the government is looking for a workable solution for this problem.
