The uniqueness of the island of Niuafo’ou has been praised because the growers are still practicing the traditional way of farming or organic farming.

Organic farming refers to the type of farming that does not require insecticide.

The Minister of Agriculture Semisi Fakahau says the idea helps improve the islanders’ healthy lifestyle and in addition, the organic produce is very popular in overseas markets.

Fakahau added, Tonga’s organic dried vanilla has reached more than $ 300 pa’anga per kilogram.

Hon. Minister also said, with Niuafo’ou’s geographical location and their method of farming, the farming of vanilla, Tongan Kava and sandalwood would be good and might help to increase the island’s economic standard.
