Nuku’alofa Area Sidewalk Project starts in Nuku’alofa

His Royal Highness Prince Ata marked the beginning of the Nuku’alofa Area Sidewalk Project this morning.

This project is facilitated by the Ministry of Infrastructure in partnership with the People’s Republic of China and Dongguang City aiming to construct new sidewalks in different areas in Tongatapu.

The Hon. Minister for Infrastructure – Semisi Sika says, the relationship between Tonga and China has contributed to the development of the country in many ways.

Meanwhile, Mr. Liang Weidong from Dongguang City says, their city decided to help Tonga to construct two sidewalks in Nuku’alofa which is expected to be completed by 2020.

He says in the past 3 years, they’ve witnessed a fruitful cooperation in infrastructure, agriculture, education, and healthcare enabling stronger friendships between China and Tonga.

China’s Ambassador to Tonga – H.E. Wang Baodong says that this project will contribute to the development of the country.

The estimated cost of the project is $13 million pa’anga.

Attending the program was the Minister for Education and Training – Penisimani Fifita, Minister of Finance – Dr Pohiva Tu’ionetoa and invited guests.
