Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa ,2/08/2018

The Food Division of the Ministry of Agriculture has been able to recall 90 per cent of imported frozen vegetables from the local shops.

The recall operation focused on the frozen vegetables from Belgium, United Kingdom and Hungary that are believed to be affected.

Acting CEO of Agriculture – Metui Falesiva says, the task force has been able to double check the stocks in all shops throughout Tonga to ensure that the contaminated products are no longer for sale.

There are concerns, that these food items were shipped to the outer islands during the national events especially the celebrations in Ha’apai.

The task force is continuing with its efforts remove these items immediately.

Last month, Ministry of Agriculture ordered the removal of some of the imported frozen vegetables because they are not safe for consumption due to possible microbial contamination of Listeria monocytogenes.
