Certificates awarded to women who completed weaving lesson 090818

Twenty certificates were awarded to women from Tongatapu constituency 4 who completed a weaving lesson facilitated by the Women’s Affairs Division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.
The women were taught on weaving fine mats and ta’ovala.
The project began last week aimed to assist unemployed women in the communities.
The workshop was funded by the Australian Government through Tonga Skills.
The team leader of Tonga Skills – Dr ‘Uhila mei Langi Fasi emphasizes the importance for women to support each other especially the young women because they can help preserve the knowledge and pass it to the future generation.
Dr Fasi hopes for more cooperation with local women to host a local expo where local products can be displayed.
Meanwhile, ‘Atilini Uta, 62, from Popua says she is happy with the knowledge she got from this program because this is the first time for her to weave fine mats.
Telesia Vi from Ma’ufanga says with the skills that she had learnt from this program she will try to share it with others.
Attending yesterday’s program was the Head of the Women’s Affairs Division – Polotu Paunga, representatives from Tonga Skills and others.
