Privy Council approved the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol

CEO for MEIDECC Paula Ma’u, has confirmed that the Privy Council has approved the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal protocol, a global commitment to minimize the impacts of climate change.
During a workshop hosted by the Department of Climate Change on the Kigali amendment, Ma’u stated the importance of collaborative work in order to effectively tackle the impacts of climate change in Tonga and the Pacific.
The main purpose of the workshop was awareness building on Ozone and on open forum for discussions on the Kigali amendment.
The workshop also focused on seeking pathways and strategies for Tonga in meeting and maintaining compliance with the Montreal Protocol.
Participants at the workshop included representatives from the Ministries of Customs and Revenues, Infrastructure, Education, Health, Fisheries and Tonga Fire Services.
