The Tongan Community in Fiji last Saturday marked the groundbreaking ceremony of a $1.5 million FJD multi purpose hall at ‘Apitonga (home for Tongans).
‘Apitonga Church Steward – Kisione Finau says this is a milestone for the Tongans in Fiji.
The new multi purpose hall will be used for prayer services, accommodation for students and to cater for Tongans who will be visiting Fiji.
Finau says, in the last four years they’ve decided to rebuild ‘Apitonga, and they’ve conducted various fundraising in Fiji, Tonga, US and Australia.
So far, they have raised $1.2 million FJD for the construction work.
At the moment, they’ve started the construction work and at the same time they are planning to carry out another fund raising program in New Zealand to complete their target.
They are hoping the Tongan government will assist them in this project because it will help students and Tongans in Fiji.
The construction work is expected to be carried for 12 months.
