Tonga earns Multi-Million Dollars from Seasonal Workers Program

The Acting CEO of Internal Affairs has confirmed that Australia’s Seasonal Workers Program has injected about AUD$26m or equivalent TOP$42m to Tonga’s economy from 2017-2018.
‘Onetoto ‘Anisi confirmed the figures during an exclusive interview with Radio and Television Tonga News this morning.
‘Anisi says the Seasonal Workers Program has helped Tonga’s economy in many ways.
To date, the Seasonal Workers Program has injected about AUD$99m since it was first implemented in 2012.
He added about NZD$81m had been added to Tonga’s economy through New Zealand’s Recognized Seasonal Employers – RSE program since 2007.
‘Anisi added in 2016-2017, the number of workers from Tonga to Australia was 2691.
Since the beginning of the Seasonal Workers Program to Australia in 2012, more than 10,000 people took part in the program.
The RSE program to New Zealand has employed more than 14,000 since they first introduced in 2007.
The Acting CEO also thanked the people who were fortunate to be part of the RSE program in New Zealand and the Seasonal Workers Program in Australia throughout the years.
