PHAMA prepares for its third phase

A one day workshop by Pacific Horticultural and Agricultural Market Access program or PHAMA to related stakeholders – completed yesterday.
The workshop aimed at reviewing the program’s first and second phase as they are preparing for a new phase known as PHAMA
Speaking to Radio and Television Tonga News a consultant in marketing from Australia – who facilitated the workshop – Mihaela Balan said, the related stakeholders should be informed of the new phase and the works that needed to be done.
“To introduce the new phase of PHAMA – which is called PHAMA plus – that introduce a new approach development which is called micro system development or mainly knowing it is making market well for the poor so basically apart from export and accessing new market that PHAMA has already have another focus of the project will be on how we can make market work better for the poor for those disadvantage, those that we keep saying have not and does not have access to may be opportunities, economic opportunities, product or services so kind of two lenses for the second phase of PHAMA,” she said.
She added this program will benefit the people of Tonga in many ways.
“I think every kind of intervention, that PHAMA plus will design or decide to invest on will have this lenses on how many people of Tonga, how many disadvantage people of Tonga would benefit so in terms of additional income, in terms of maybe jobs, or in terms of improving livelihood, she said.
The workshop was attended by the chairman of the Tonga Marketing Access Group who’s also the CEO of Agriculture – Dr. Viliami Manu, representatives from related government Ministries, NGO’s among others.
