The archbishop and one of the three primates of the Anglican Church of Aotearoa, New Zealand and Polynesia is currently in Tongatapu to conduct discussions with the members of the Anglican church in preparation for the election of a new Archbishop of the Diocese of Polynesia, with the previous Archbishop, Dr. Winston Halapua having retired at the end of August.
This is part of a wider regional visit by Archbishop Don Tamihere to the churches in the Diocese of Polynesia, and he says the main focus of the visits will be on ensuring that everyone involved has clarity on the processes and the importance of the election of a new archbishop for the diocese.
Archbishop Tamihere also emphasized the need for the church to pray on this issue to ensure the archbishop they are to elect is the best for the Polynesian Diocese.
During his two-day visit to Tonga, Tamihere held discussions with the church members and leaders on this issue.
The Electoral College will accept nomination later this month and the election will be held in October and upon the completion of the process, the elected archbishop can be expected to be installed in December.
