Doctor urges women to get tested for breast cancer
Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 04/10/2018
Dr. ‘Ana ‘Akauola from the Ministry of Health has called on women in Tonga on the importance to use the mammogram machine in Vaiola.
The mammogram machine can find or detect breast cancer early, when it’s small and even before a lump can be felt.
She added, Tonga is fortunate to have this machine – because its services are for free compared to overseas countries.
Last year, according to Dr. ‘Akauola, they only screened 200 women and majority of them turned up in October.
She said, the mammogram is available at the hospital for women and they can get tested during working hours.
Meanwhile during the month the Tonga Breast Cancer society continues with this awareness campaign program with the theme “Early detection, Saves lives.”
