Tonga Family Health Association marked their 43rd anniversary this morning

The Bishop of the Catholic Church Diocese of Tonga and Niue -H. E Cardinal Mafi together with the Minister of MEIDECC this morning marked the 43rd anniversary of the establishment of the Tonga Family Health Association at a program in Folaha.
The bishop of the Roman Catholic church – HE Cardinal Mafi urged members and parents to have an open dialogue with their children at home as a way to address the challenges they face daily.
H.E Cardinal Mafi said he strongly believes the only way to address challenges faced by youth is for parents to communicate with their children, listen to their voices and their concerns and to guide them in every step of the way.
He added the youth need to be reminded they are being loved and cared for at home and in the society.
The President of the Tonga Family Health Association Board – Sione Hufanga, highlighted the important work the association has done for the people in the communities especially women and children.
Meanwhile, the Director of the Tonga Family Health Association – ‘Amelia Hoponoa elaborated on the significance of mothers and their contribution in the communities.
Hoponoa says there are many qualities of a mother including creating a peaceful environment at home and a compassionate heart.
She also highlighted the importance to empower mothers and young women and to educate them in order to create a safer environment and to also develop their talents to a higher level.
Karen Hills from a regional association – IPPF praised the Tonga Family Health Association for the work they have done for the public, despite the challenges faced.
Part of this morning’s program were entertainments from youth groups from different Church congregations.
