Rainfall forecast to be below average in coming months

In the latest climate update issued from the Tonga Met Service, rainfall recorded across the country was above average.
The latest from the past month, there was extremely high rainfall recorded in Vava’u and Ha’apai, which also set Ha’apai’s highest December rainfall recorded, with around 700mm of rain.
This rainfall has eased much of drought conditions experience across the country in the past few months.
The highest maximum temperature was 33.8˚C recorded in Niuafo’ou on December 5th and the lowest minimum temperature was 17.4˚C in Fua’amotu on the 13th
With the rainfall outlook for January – March 2019, rainfall is forecast to be below average across the country.
The report also advised the public to collect as much water as possible during rainy days and ensure clean water is safe for usage. It also encouraged the public to be aware, use water wisely, and to seek advice from relevant authorities, to minimize the effects of natural disasters.
