Tonga’s internet connections finally restored back to normal

Tongatapu’s internet connections via fiber optic cable is now back to normal after it was damaged about two weeks ago.
CEO of MEIDECC – Paula Ma’u says the damage recorded on the international cable has been fixed thanks to the kind assistance from the crew of the CS Reliance in close collaboration with the TCL staff.
Now the two faults on the international cable have been fixed the current operation now is to fix the local cable connecting Tongatapu to Ha’apai and Vava’u, hopefully by later this week.
Ma’u adds the cause of the damage recorded is yet to be identified at the moment HOWEVER they are hopeful that by the end of the maintenance work currently underway, a full report from
CS Reliance will analyze and state the cause of damage.
Meanwhile the two internet carriers TCC and Digicel have provided a preliminary report stating their revenue loss is more than 1 million pa’anga each during Tonga’s internet blackout.
