Catholic leader emphasized the importance of preparedness

The Bishop of the Catholic Church Diocese of Tonga and Niue this morning highlighted the importance of being prepared in times of a natural disaster.
He highlighted this at a one-day workshop hosted by Tonga Trust in partnership with Women Affair’s Division of the Ministry of Internal Affairs for strengthening local leadership capabilities to prepare for and respond to natural disasters.
This morning’s workshop is the start of the various workshops for the whole of Tongatapu which began this morning with representatives from the villages of Puke up to Nukunuku.
His Emminence – Cardinal Mafi then highlighted the importance of always being prepared in times of a natural disaster as Tonga has just recently survived 4 tropical depressions.
The workshop focuses on those in the community and villages that are the most vulnerable to natural disasters including women and girls, those living with disabilities also adolescent youth under the age of 19.
The workshop is funded by the government of Canada through their program known as Canada Fund for Local Initiatives – CFLI.
A similar workshop will be carried out for the villages in the Central area next week.
