The first cruise ship to berth at the Nuku’alofa Harbour this year is the Queen Victoria from Britain with close to 2thousand passengers and more than 900 crew. AF
The cruise ship was sailing from Apia Samoa to the Friendly islands this morning.
A senior officer of Tourism Division says, two cruise ships were expected to visit Nuku’alofa last month but both had to be cancelled due to the cyclone alert.
However, one cruise ship managed to berth at the Puatalefusi Wharf on the 25th of January.
The Tourism sector is always excited to welcome the cruise ships as they bring hundreds of thousands of pa’anga to the economy through its local agencies and tourism markets.
Tourists are encouraged to visit the traditional sites, sneak peek at the traditional way of life and to swim at Tonga’s great ocean and most importantly to meet and greet the people of the Friendly islands.
Queen Victoria will depart from Nuku’alofa this afternoon and set sail to Tauranga New Zealand.
There are 25 cruise ships lined up to visit Tonga this year injecting millions to the economy.
