MSC Magnifica makes maiden call at Vuna Wharf this morning

A cruise ship – the MSC Magnifica – docked at the Vuna Wharf this morning, and the Deputy Prime Minister who is also the Minister for Tourism -Hon. Semisi Sika, along with other officials were welcomed aboard the ship in a special welcome and crest exchange program.
This is the first time for this ship to visit Tonga and brings over 2000 passengers and 951 crew. The cruise ship is visiting today on its way from Apia, Samoa.
This is only the second cruise ship to arrive in Tonga so far this year, with earlier cruise ships visits being canceled due to bad weather.
The visit of cruise ships provide an opportunity for further development of the tourism sector as well as a chance for handicraft makers to make a profit from selling their products.
The MSC Magnifica departed Tonga at 6pm today, heading to Suva, Fiji.
