Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 14/03/2019

Two vessels have been identified in the area where the high speed internet cable was cut according to a reliable source from Tonga Cable Limited – TCL.

One was an Oil Tanker and the other vessel was located on Saturday before the internet blackout on Sunday evening, 20th of January.

However, due to the sensitivity of the issue, including the source of information, no other details were revealed to Radio and Television Tonga news this morning.

The information gathered and collected are all submitted to the Enquiry committee for investigations.

Composition of the committee has not been released but it’s understood some ministers of cabinet are members of the enquiry committee.

At this stage, criminal charges are likely to be imposed due to the nature of the event.

Most of the board members of TCL strongly believes that the incident is not sabotage but one member thinks otherwise.

The estimated cost for repairing the cable cut is about 2 million pa’anga.
