Tongatapu set to kick off the Royal Agricultural Show 2019
Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 08/04/2019
This year Tongatapu will be kicking off the Royal Agricultural Show, with the final schedule of the show having been confirmed by the Ministry of Agriculture, Foods and Forestry.
Tongatapu is usually the final host of the show but the ministry has taken into consideration the several celebrations that will take place in Tongatapu later this year, and have decided to implement this change.
Taia Lehaa from the ministry says there had been some issues evident in the Vava’u leg of the show back in 2017, when the show followed a few major celebrations including the annual conference of the FWC and His Majesty King Tupou VI’s birthday. The ministry then corrected this error in their planning of the show last year, where Ha’apai hosted the show before the FWC conference. This year with the FWC conference set to be held here in Tongatapu as well as the royal celebration of HMs birthday, the ministry has decided to have Tongatapu kick off the show before these celebrations take place.
Lehaa says because Tonga is a small country, the same people with obligations to these celebrations are the same people who take part in the royal agricultural show each year, and the ministry are hoping that with this change to the schedule, the show would still be a success.
Tongatapu’s show will take place on June 21st and 22nd, then the rest of the islands will host the show in July.
At the moment the ministry is working on finalising the programs for the show and Lehaa says they will soon be releasing this to the public and opening up registeration to take part in this year’s show.
