Japan presented assistance to Vaiola Hospital

Japan’s Ambassador to Tonga – HE Tetsuya Ishii this morning presented assistance to the Minister for Health – Dr Saia Piukala.
The assistance included 7 first aid kits, 13 portable restrooms along with 5 small-sized tents aimed to assist staff in times of a natural disaster.
The CEO for Health – Dr Siale ‘Akauola says, they requested the assistance after realizing shortages in services carried out by the emergency response team to the outer islands including the tsunami that hit the two Niua’s in 2009 also Cyclone in Ha’apai in 2014.
Dr ‘Akauola adds, with this assistance, the team will be able to response quicker, be self-independent and are more well-prepared for the next natural disaster.
The emergency response team of the Ministry works in partnership with the National Emergency Management Office – NEMO and related stakeholders.
About 10 people in this team including certified nurses, doctors and engineers.
