National public consultation on Tonga Youth Policy

The Minister of Internal Affairs – Dr. Saia Piukala this morning urged the related stakeholders to address the issues face by the youth of Tonga especially drugs. Piukala made the comment to officially open the first national public consultation on Tonga’s youth Policy.
Minister of Internal Affairs Hon. Dr Saia Piukala says the consultation is an opportunity for all the related stakeholders to discuss the major problems face by young adults in the communities such as drugs, alcohol and social issues.
He adds the consultation is an opportunity to discuss solutions to those issues.
“The complexity demanding and challenging nature of youth issues in Tonga demand urgent action to provide guidelines and strategy that can be used to support youth development and facilitate their participation in national development. But nevertheless the policy must form in order to truly set light on the platform of challenges young people face on a daily basis that hindered the achievement of their maximum growth and their realization of their full potential”
One of the participant at this morning program was Polikalepo Kefu from Tonga Red Cross Society says that this is an important consultation as it provides guidelines for the youth and it will help develop and improve the youth related sectors in Tonga.
