Salote Pilolevu airport to be repaired soon

Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 15/05/2019

The Salote Pilolevu Airport will be repaired in September after the design for the runway was completed and submitted to the Ministry of Infrastructure.

The project is funded by the World Bank, under the Tonga Resilient Transport Project.

During the project which is expected to be carried out in three months, the airport will only be partly closed and will be completed before the end of the year.

The runway was last rehabilitated in 1998 under assistance from the Australian Government and the construction works were undertaken by the Ministry of Works.

Similar works on the Lupepau’u International Airport and Fua’amotu International Airport, had already been undertaken.
