Attendants of the public consultations at Kolonga and Fua’amotu opposed government’s bills

The first consultations in Tongatapu on the six bills proposed by the Government was held at Kolonga and Fua’amotu and majority opposed the bills.
The consultation in Kolonga was attended by about 30 locals of Nukuleka, Makaunga, Talafo’ou Navutoka,Manuka ,Afaa ,Niutoua ‘Eueiki and Kolonga.
In Fua’amotu more than 20 people from Haveluliku ,Fatumu ,Ha’asini ,Hamula ,Nakolo ,Ahononou and Fua’amotu attended the consultation – with 10 voting in favor while 13 were against it.
During the consultation the district officer of Kolonga – Sitiveni Fe’ao raised concern – on why the Government are not conducting the consultation knowing that the bills were submitted by them.
The Chairman of the Legislation Committee Samiu Vaipulu says, the consultation according to the rules of procedures and standing order of the house, the consultation is to be led by the house’s legislation committee.
The consultation will continue this evening to Tatakamotonga and Vaini.
