Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 29/05/2019
The Food Division of the Ministry of Agriculture has recorded a drop in the number of expired food items removed from the retail shops in Tongatapu.
Head of the Division Metui Falesiva says this is the great outcome of their joint efforts with the Ministry of Trade and Health to remove all expired food items from the shops as it can cause health problems.
The taskforce is also ensuring that all purchased food items are safe for consumption.
At the moment the Food Division is working closely with the Ministry of Trade on policies and regulations to fine businesses that are constantly found selling of expired food items especially the foreign retail shops.
Falesiva once again encouraged the consumers to report to their Division if they still find expired food on sale on any businesses in Tonga.
