HE Adrian Morrison says they are assisting Tonga Netball with training for the team in Australia next week.
“While we continue focus on sports participation, we’re delighted to be expanding our support to include elite and emerging athletes from the Pacific to develop them and so that they can compete internationally so tonight we’re celebrating one of the first activities under this expanded program. We’re contributing by sending the Tonga Netball team to train in Australia with support from Netball Australia in advance for the Pacific Games in July. We wish you well in Australia and of course at the games as well.”
General Manager of Tonga Netball Association – Salote Sisifa thanked the government of Australia for their kind assistance.
“Throughout the years, partners assisting us, Australia included specifically targeted community level and also more focus on health drives – fair enough. However, it is always been our argument that Tonga has to rise and lift the profile of the national team because it is what each little girl in primary school aspires to become when playing netball. Only then can netball get the recognition it deserves. Today, your Excellency, Australia has opened the door for us to explore this option. For the first time, our national team will get the opportunity in terms of preparation a high-performance team deserves.”
Also attending yesterday’s program was Lord Vaea, Chief Secretary to Cabinet – Edgar Cocker, TTP 3’s People’s Representative to Parliament – Siaosi Sovaleni and many invited guests.
