Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 31/05/2019
In a press conference yesterday, the Prime Minister Hon. ‘Akilisi Pohiva says he was interviewed by 87.5 FM about the changes within the Ministry of Foreign Affairs specifically the Secretary of Foreign Affairs Mahe ‘Uli’uli Tupouniua, saying that he suspended Tupouniua from his current post.
PM says this is not accurate and the news on the issue is misleading the public and as such the PM said he’s starting to lose his trust in the 87.5FM. Radio Tonga contacted the 87.5 Radio Station for a comment on the issue but was responded with a “no comment”.
Meanwhile members of the public strongly believe that every news item broadcast should be accurate and unbiased. Radio Tonga was in Nuku’alofa this morning and Fungalei Kolofale of Vava’u says news should be balance and accurate because inaccurate news will mislead the public.
Tevita Prescott of Tufuvai ‘Eua says news should be balance and completely accurate because the public deserves to know the truth. Vola Mohenoa from Ha’ateiho adds the public will make the right choice if they are provided with correct information. Loketi Tu’ipulotu says though he’s just visiting the country but as visitors they need to know what the Government is implementing and the people should be informed with the reliable and unbiased information.
