Parliament deliberations continued this morning for the 2019 session, however only the first morning session was allowed to be broadcast live while the rest of the deliberations weren’t allowed to be disclosed to the public or to be broadcast live from Parliament.

This morning the Chairman on the Select Committee tasked with drafting the official reply to the King’s address on the State Opening of Parliament, Lord Tu’ilakepa presented the reply to MPs.

However, MPs wanted to make few changes to the content of the reply.

TT3 MP Siaosi Sovaleni says the issue is sensitive to be broadcast live on Radio because the reply should first be presented to the King.

Speaker Lord Fakafanua ruled for the debate on the issue not to be broadcast live to allow an open and in house discussion for the MPs on the reply to the King’s address.

Following the in-house deliberations, the Legislative Assembly approved the final version of the reply to the King’s state opening address.

The Speaker nominated the Deputy Speaker, Lord Tu’ilakepa and the Chairman of the Whole House Committee Veivosa Taka to deliver the reply and have an audience with the King.

Parliament is adjourned until Monday, May 10th for the discussion of the national budget.
