Sixteen Women’s development groups in Tongatapu and ‘Eua were fortunate to receive assistance from the government in strengthening their work.

The CEO of the Ministry of Internal Affairs – Dr. Fotu Fisi’iahi says the women’s development groups had made requests to the ministry to assist in developing their group’s projects.

He says the ministry is looking forward to seeing the results of these groups work which helps their families in paying their children’s school fees, bills, and other family, church, and village obligations.

Meanwhile Tupou Fakakovikaetau from the MIA Women’s Department says after a month they will look at how these women groups are developing with this assistance.

Then after 2 months, the 16 women development groups will submit their financial report on their projects to the ministry.

Vaoahi Faluku from Makamo’ui Development Group of Nukunuku thanked the ministry for approving their request and says this will greatly boost women’s group’s projects if they use it wisely.

Faluku says their group welcomes the assistance and will put it to good use but mostly they are greatful that they will no longer need to take out a loan in order to complete their projects.

Similar assistance were received by women’s development groups of Ha’apai and Vava’u while some groups in Niuafo’ou’s group are still awaiting approval of their requests.
