The World Health Organization in collaboration with Vaiola Hospital marked this week as Blood Donor week emphasizing the importance of safe blood donation with the theme “Safe Blood for All”.
During this week’s Ma’alahi Program, the Senior Medical Scientist at Vaiola Hospital – Semisi Lenati said blood donation was important to their operations at the hospital.
He acknowledged their close collaboration with the Tonga Red Cross Society in hosting blood drives to collect blood for the hospital’s blood bank.
Lenati says ensuring the blood bank supply never runs out is vital for the hospital because the doctors can carry out their operations according to the supply in the blood bank.
Other programs to mark this week included a radio talk back show on radio.
