‘Eua 11 MP concerned about the allocation of funds in the 2019/2020 budget

In the deliberations in the Whole House Committee this morning ‘Eua 11 MP Tevita Lavemaau raised his concerns on the allocation of funds in the 2019/2020budget.
Lavemaau says the statement shows more funds are allocated for the people of Ha’apai than the people of ‘Eua – with about 700 thousand pa’anga as their constituency funds.
Another fund is allocated as transportation fee for the travelers.
However, Finance Minister Hon. Dr Pohiva Tu’i’onetoa says the information said by ‘Eua 11 MP is inaccurate as the people of Ha’apai urgently need the government’s assistance – as they are still recovering from the impacts of TC Ian in 2014. Not only that – there are more people residing in Ha’apai than ‘Eua.
Meanwhile Lavemaau requested the Government for financial assistance of about 1.5 million pa’anga to pay off their loan at the TDB – that was used to buy the island’s new vessels.
He also praised the Government’s 14 million pa’anga loan scheme administered by the Tonga Development Bank.
During this morning’s deliberations in the Whole House Committee, Noble number 1 MP from Vava’u Lord Tu’ilakepa urged the Government to work collaboratively in addressing the nation’s major issues such as drugs.
