SPC facilitated an Introduction to Disaster Risk Management training

Disaster management officers should be well equipped with the necessary information and skills to achieve their assigned functions in disaster management.
The Pacific Community (SPC) this week facilitated a three-day Introduction to Disaster Risk Management training for representatives from 5 Polynesian countries including Tonga.
Noa Cokavou – Disaster risk management officer from the SPC said this training of trainers enables participants to return to their countries and organizations and take the lead in training their communities.
Natural Disasters are a frequent occurrence in the region and increasing in intensity in recent years so trainings such as this with updated and relevant content are important in the regions disaster risk management.
Tusi Finikaso from the Tuvalu Red Cross says this has been a great training for the participants.
The training wrapped up this afternoon, and participating countries included Cook Islands, Niue, Samoa, Tuvalu and Tonga.
