Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 05/07/2019
It’s celebration time at the Funga Faa’imata Grounds where hundreds of Ex-students have gathered for the annual Ex-Students Reunion. The reunion began yesterday evening with a meet & greet at Tonga High School then continued this morning with the Ex-students march through downtown Nuku’alofa, which was led by the pioneers of the school – the class of 1947.
The president of the Tonga High School Ex-students Association – Siaosi Sovaleni (Class of ’82) says this reunion also celebrates the 72nd anniversary of the school. Sovaleni says the Ex-students Annual General Meeting had already been held on the schools anniversary 4th of June but there will also be a special meeting at this reunion which is an opportunity for all Ex-students both from abroad and here in Tonga, to discuss important issues for the ex-students and the school.
Hundreds of Ex-students were at the programs for the reunion starting at yesterday’s Meet & Greet as well as this mornings Ex-students march which included pioneers – Lady Tuna Fielakepa and the class of 1947 – Kelepi Pouliva’ati and Lolohea Tupouniua.
Part of this mornings program included marking the completion of the upgrade of one of the classrooms, which was funded by the Class of 1979. The Ex-students President says this is one of the issues the ex-students are looking at, to see if each class could assist with the maintenance of each classroom at the school.
The reunion continues with a grand ball this evening, then tomorrow is a free day for each class to have their own get-together and then on Sunday the ex-students will join the church service at the Centennary church at Saione on Sunday which is part of the celebrations of His Majesty’s 60th Birthday. The final program is on Monday – a farewell program and that concludes the Tonga High School Ex-students Reunion for 2019.
