The Deputy Prime Minister has denied the allegations made by the Post Courier website in Papua New Guinea earlier this week claiming he had made racist and discriminatory remarks towards the reigning Miss Pacific Islands at the Miss Heilala pageant last week.
In a press release from the Ministry of Tourism, Semisi Sika says he is deeply regretful that the Post Courier have made such allegations against him.
At the closing program of the Miss Heilala pageant last week, Miss Pacific Islands – Leoshina Kariha delivered a speech and during this, a yet-to-be-identified guest in the VIP section had yelled out racist comments directed at Kariha.
In the statement from the Ministry, Sika says the allegations that he was the one who made these remarks have taken the opportunity to undermine and downplay the good work that has been done by the committee as well as the supporting staff who have made the Heilala Festival a great success.
The Deputy Prime Minister then expressed his gratitude to the Miss Pacific Islands for attending, and acknowledged her great contribution, hard work and presence which has elevated the Heilala Festival program for 2019 to another level.
