King highlights few issues to address during ‘Eua Royal Agricultural Show

His Majesty King Tupou VI officially opened ‘Eua’s Royal Agricultural Show at the Niu’eiki Ground this morning highlighting key issues to address.

He also emphasized a change in the way of living especially in the agricultural sector due to the negative impacts of climate change.

His Majesty King Tupou VI highly praised the island’s hard work on the agricultural sector especially with the quality of their kava roots imported to Tongatapu and abroad for commercial purposes.

He says as Tonga is highly vulnerable to the negative impacts of climate change, the people must learn to adapt to a new way of life especially for growers as they need to be prepared the withstand its impacts.

He also encouraged growers to plant more fruit trees, vegetables and crops to cater for the people’s daily needs and to reduce the amount of imported food from abroad.

His Majesty thanked all related stakeholders for enabling the event to take place this morning and wishing them the very best for hosting the FWC annual conference next year.

The response to the address was done by the Minister of Agriculture Hon. Losaline Ma’asi thanking his Majesty for reminding the people to be more aware of the impacts of climate change and actions required to be resilient.

The program of the day continued to the presentation of the awards for winners and Their Majesties inspecting the people’s finest produce and products.
