More than 28 police officers suspected since April 2018

The Police Drug Taskforce has been instrumental in the fight against drugs, making several arrests through different investigations. Their work has also seen more than 28 officers within the Police Force suspended and are under investigation.
Police Minister Hon. Mateni Tapueluelu says more than 28 police officers have been suspended from duty as a result from the operation of the Drug Taskforce, since their establishment in April last year.Tapueluelu says the suspended police officers were charged and alleged with involvement with illegal activities and most are awaiting court cases.
The Drug Taskforce Unit was established to strengthen Tonga Police’s capacity in the fight against drugs in Tonga. Since then Police had seized huge amount of methamphetamine and cannabis worth millions of Tongan pa’anga.
