The locals in the Nuku’alofa area have expressed their dissatisfaction over the newly installed smart water meters by the Tonga Water Board, saying that their water bills have increased compared to the kent water meters.
Speaking to Radio and Television Tonga News on the issue Lisala Fifita of Folaha, Tilisa Fotu from Fasi moe Afi and Lisita Tupou of Fanga all believe, that the previous water meter was better as the new meters record every details about the amount of water used.
As a result, the customers are paying more for the Water Board.
The Chief engineer, Qudus Fielea clarified the issue and said, the previous water meters often had technical faults and couldn’t record the exact amount of water used by customers, therefore the Board had to give its customers the minimum rate as they have no record at all.
