Vendors stressed about tax collection from their daily services

Radio & TV Tonga, Nuku’alofa, 26/08/2019

Vendors at the flea market at Tuimatamoana have expressed their concerns over Government’s drive to collect tax from their daily services.

Radio Tonga was able to talk to a few this morning and they all wanted to remain anonymous however they said they are not happy with the initiative but they do not oppose it as they know the tax is to fund the Government’s operations.

Meanwhile a senior officer from the Ministry of Inland Revenue says this is part of their Laukau Campaign to inform the people especially in the informal sector the amount of money they have to pay as tax to the Government, according to the Law.

He adds, the staff from the Ministry are visiting the informal sectors to remind them about the tax and the amount of money they have to pay and the staff are prepared to answer any enquiries about revenue and tax.
