The Hon. Prime Minister believe that local media’s report on him are biased and not independent. PM Pohiva’s referring to RNZI’s article about him on the 22nd of August – criticizing the tears that he shed during the Pacific Island Forum Leaders retreat in Tuvalu.
PM Pohiva said, he was surprised at how local media interpreted and covered news about his emotional during the retreat saying that it was insincere and hypocritical while foreign media reported otherwise.
In Radio NZ’s article – their correspondent here in Tonga – Kalafi Moala quoted – ‘Eliesa Fifita – Tonga Ma’a Tonga Newspaper’s editor says the tear’s shed by Pohiva was not sincere or genuine at all, it is all an act in front of regional leaders.
But according to Setita Tu’i’onetoa – Station Manager of Tonga Broadcasting Commission – it was not right for Kalafi to report on the issue without getting a comment from the PM – and to report on someone else’s emotion – the news reporter must be at the scene to witness that emotion before reporting on it.
However, contacts were made to both Moala and Fifita for a comment on the issue but they refused to.
