Students from a Catholic University in Australia are currently helping the community centre of Longolongo rebuild their Catholic church building that was badly damaged from TC Gita. 22 students from Warrane College of New South Wales are in Tonga to help with the construction. The construction work started on Monday and its worth around 10 thousand pa’anga.
The Assistant Dean from Warrane college – Xavier Symons says, the reason behind the project – was to fully fund the construction project in Tonga – after they heard of the damages from cyclone Gita last year.
Jeremy Blades and Dominic O’Brien from the university came along with the team and expressed their joy in being a part of the project.
Meanwhile, Saane Hala’api’api who is in charge of the church’s community centre in Longolongo expresses how happy they are with the kind assistance from the Catholic students from Australia.
The project is expected to be completed in the next 2 weeks.
